Lifehouse in: One Song to Sing

On our last episode of “One Song to Sing:”

Rick was in a terrible tattoo accident that left him in a full body cast.

Rick: *lying in the hospital room covered in a full body cast* Mmmkskfkmmmm…..

Bryce found out that he was adopted and his real family was Spanish.

Bryce: But I’m white…

Writer: And your point would be?

Bryce: *sigh* Go on.

Jason discovered a dark secret about one of their crew members.

Jason: You mean to tell me one of you likes to dress up in ladies’ dresses?!

And Ben the touring guitarist was starting to question his role in the band.

Ben: *very dramatically* I need you to tell me…*loud sniff* what you want with me!  I feel so used and abused! *sob*

And so our story continues in the small town of Crescent Springs on an early Sunday morning.  Jason is backstage with the crew trying to sort out this mess.

Jason: *holding up a white silk dress* Alright, I need to know whose dress this is that I found in the back of the bus.

All of the crew is silent.

Jason: We can talk about this, guys.  No one needs to feel ashamed about anything.  The important thing is that we share with one another.

Crew Guy: *very suddenly* It’s Dan’s.  He bought it!

Dan: You Bitch!

Jason:*breaking up the slap fest* Guys, stop it! Now, Dan, tell me what happened.

*soft symphonic music plays in the background*

Dan: *sniffs* I…I don’t know if I can talk about this now…I need some time to think…

Jason: It’s ok.  Just get it out.

Dan: *major camera close-up* I…I don’t know how to say this…I want to look good for you…*close-up of Jason’s freaked-out face*

The scene switches to Bryce who is sitting at a desk in an office.  A woman comes through the door and puts a cup of coffee on the table in front of him.

Lady: Are you ready for this, Mr. Soderberg?

Bryce: I…I don’t know.  This is all so sudden, I mean you think you know who you are and then, BAM; you’re somebody else completely different…

Lady: *interrupting* No! You are the same person you always were.  Nothing will ever change that, do you hear me? Nothing! *puts her hand on his*

Bryce: Thanks…that means a lot.

They exchange a sexual tension look then there is a knock at the door that startles the two. The Lady gets up and opens the door to let a Spanish couple walk in.  They both are very short and wrinkly, but with a certain “Awww” charm.

Bryce: Madre y Padre?

Madre: *slight cry* …Si…

Bryce: I…don’t know what to say…I love you…

They embrace in a huge family hug with a very tall, white, blonde Bryce in the middle of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lopez, a short, tanned, dark haired couple. Meanwhile, backstage…Jason and Dan are in a long freakish stare we left them in earlier.

Jason: *stare*

Dan: *stare*

Crew Guys: Ummm…maybe we should go set up or something…*practically run out of the room*

Jason: *turns away and looks at a wall* Dan, I…

Dan: *interrupting* Jason, you don’t have to say anything.  I know there can never be anything between us…I know you’re not like that…

Jason: Uh…no I’m not…I’m glad you realize that.

Dan: I just…I’m not happy with myself.  I don’t love myself and that dress makes me love myself.

Jason: Ok…

Dan: I should probably go…*begins to walk out*

Jason: Wait, Dan, I don’t want to leave things like this.

Dan: *turns around* There is nothing else that can be said.  I will leave Crescent Springs as soon as possible. *pause* I just want you to know I never meant to be a burden on you…I respect you too much.

Jason: You don’t have to leave. We could give you a job that would keep you about 10ft away from me at all times.

Dan: That’s sweet of you, but I must go.  There’s nothing left for me here.  Goodbye, Jason. *walks out*

The scene returns to Bryce signing some papers.

Bryce: Mom, Dad, I’m in a band and I really think you should come and see us play.

Padre: *speaks in Spanish*

Bryce: Um…do you speak any English?

Madre: Very…little…

Bryce: Alright, I see that’s something we’re going to have to work on.  Well go on back to the hotel.  I have to go visit a friend in the hospital.

Madre: Good boy. *they walk out*

Bryce: *to Lady* Well that should be all the paper work.

Lady: Bryce, there’s something I have to tell you.

Bryce: What is it? Are you alright?

Lady: I’m fine.  It’s just a small thing…

Bryce: Don’t be afraid to tell me.

Lady: *long pause* I’m…carrying your baby.

Bryce: What?!

Lady: I have your offspring in my womb.

Bryce: Que?!

Lady: Bryce, stop.  I need you to be there.  I know this affair is very new and fresh and I don’t want to lose you.

Bryce: This affair started two days ago! How do you know you’re pregnant?!

Lady: Oh you know time is condensed on these sorts of things…

Bryce: Damn…you’re right.

Lady: I’m so scared.  I don’t know if I’m cut out to be a mother.

Bryce: *taking her into his arms* Shhhh…its ok…everything will be alright.

The new scene begins in County Hospital in Rick’s room. Jason is already there trying to comfort Rick.

Jason: Rick, I told you that 67 tattoos would be dangerous…

Rick: *muffled* Yeah…yeah…

Jason: I tell yah, this has been a very strange day for me.  I’m very confused.

Rick: Could you give me a sip of water?

Jason: Sure. *grabs a cup of water with a huge straw and places it in the opening for Rick’s mouth*

Rick: Thanks.

Just then, Bryce comes bounding in.

Bryce: Guys, something life changing has occurred.

Jason: You mean besides the fact that you were adopted and your real parents are small Spanish people and you’re a tall white Canadian?

Bryce: Yes! Even more life changing than that! I’m going to be a father!

Rick proceeds to spray his water all over Jason’s face.

Jason: Thanks, Rick.

Bryce: I need to know that you guys will support me.

Jason: Of course we will, Bryce.

Bryce: And that you won’t judge me.

Jason: Oh of course we’re going to judge you, but we will be supportive at the same time.

Bryce: Thanks.

All of a sudden there is a pounding on the door and Ben sweeps in.  He has an angry confused look on his face.

Jason: Ben, what’s wrong?

Ben: Ok, guys, I need to know what your intensions are.

Rick: Well, I’d like to pray for my body and Bryce’s new baby and…

Ben: Not those intentions!  I mean with me and the band…wait…Bryce’s baby?

Bryce: Later, Ben, later.

Jason: What do you mean? We love you, Ben.  You’re a great asset to this family.

Ben: So I’m a permanent member?

Jason: Well…I don’t know about that…but…

Ben: *emotional breakdown* No! I need answers! I’m so confused! I don’t know what I’m doing anymore!

Ben takes out a key and locks the door behind him.  He then swallows the key.

Ben: No one is leaving until we straighten this out!

Jason: *close-up*

Bryce:*close-up*

Rick: *close-up in bandages so you can’t see his face, but trust me*

On the next episode of “One Song to Sing:”

Will Ben get his question answered?  Will Dan come back to bother Jason?  Will Bryce take on his new father role?  Will Rick stop at 67 tattoos?  Tune in next time.
